The Grand Cherokee continues to evolve in 2019 with its seven available trims and 11 configurations that will suit any driver. The top trim, the Trackhawk, features body-colored fascia, fender flares, and door handles and heated auto-dimming door mirrors. Standard features include exterior mirrors with integrated turn signals. This impressive FWD unit rides on attractive 20-inch forged aluminum wheels. More modest drivers will find the base Laredo trim to be more suitable. This model comes with a rear lip spoiler, liftgate cargo door, sturdy galvanized steel body, and stylish 17-inch aluminum wheels. Between these two trims, there are the Limited, Trailhawk, Overland, Summit, and SRT models. Each comes with varying standard features, but upgrade packages are available for drivers who want a little something extra.
Engine
Jeep Grand Cherokee is available with four different engines that are all coupled with an eight-speed automatic. The base engine is a 3.6-liter V-6 that generates 295 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. The SRT features a 5.7-liter V-8 engine, which is capable of towing up to 7,200 pounds. Generating an impressive 360 horsepower, the engine is also an option for other trim levels. The more fuel efficient turbo diesel engine has a 7,400-pound towing capacity, and the 6.4-liter V-8 engine produces 475 horsepower and can motor from 0-60 mph in less than 5 seconds. The top-of-the-line Premium Trackhawk comes with a supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 engine that produces a hefty 707 horsepower and propels this mid-size SUV from 0 to 60 mph in less than four seconds.
Performance
The Grand Cherokee's eight-speed automatic transmission is smooth and very responsive. A few of the lower trims include convenient steering-wheel mounted paddle shifters, and despite weighing more than two tons, the SUV's unibody construction helps to settle the vehicle in rough or uneven terrain. In the Limited, Overland, and Summit editions, the Quadra-Lift air suspension is able to raise the riding height from 6.4 to 11.3 inches for a smoother ride while off-roading and will automatically lower the vehicle on the highway for better fuel economy. Four different four-wheel-drive systems are available for optimum off-roading in almost any weather. Jeep includes a terrain selector for switching between Auto, Sand, Snow, Mud, and Rock, so this SUV is ready to tackle any trail.
Interior
All of the Grand Cherokee's passenger-friendly seats are wide and comfortable. There is plenty of rear legroom and headroom. With the rear seat folded, cargo room can expand from 36.3 cubic feet to more than 63 cubic feet, and the Grand Cherokee's well-appointed interior is pleasantly luxurious with soft-feel surfaces throughout.
Safety Features
Even the base Laredo trim includes an impressive list of safety features, such as parking assist sensors, a rearview camera, and blind-spot monitors with rear traffic alerts.
