The 2019 Dodge Ram 1500 is here. This newest Ram 1500 model brings with it all the features and conveniences of a truck without sacrificing a comfortable ride. The High-Strength Chassis
New for 2019, the Dodge Ram 1500 has an entirely new high-strength ladder frame made from 98 percent stainless steel. Front frame rails have an octagonal shape and are several millimeters thick. When a smaller crash happens, they’ll move out to lessen the impact. Best of all, the new chassis is actually 100 pounds lighter thanks to the new frame. This brings the 2019 model in at 17 percent lighter than previous generations. Plus, the Ram 1500 tows just over 2,000 pounds more, beating many of its competitors in the same class.
A Better Ride With FRDs
Dodge partners exclusively with Hitachi for its Ram frequency response dampers (FRD). They’re meant to improve the overall quality of the truck’s ride. They work in two different ways. In slower-input situations like cornering or heavy breaking, dampening is more intense. This results in poise and increased stability for the truck. With faster input, when the truck drives at higher speeds or over rougher roads, the dampening is softer. It adds to comfort, control, and confidence behind the wheel.
The dampers are on all four corners of the 2019 Ram 1500. Paired with variable-rate rear coil springs, it carries heavy loads easily without fear of the truck bottoming out.
An All-New Tailgate
Dodge introduced a new aluminum tailgate for 1500 as well. It employs dampening while opening and has a liftgate assist. To set it apart from the competition, Dodge uses a strut charged with nitrogen and oil. This gives the tailgate swing a consistent performance no matter how hot or cold the weather is. Finally, the latch and lock mechanism is now completely electronic, reducing the number of moving parts. It also allows drivers to remotely lower the tailgate using a key fob before getting to the truck.
Better Safety and Security Features
The 2019 Ram 1500 comes with an impressive 100 safety and security features. This includes features like Adaptive Cruise Control. It has stop, hold, and go features and ready-alert control with trailer sway dampening. It also has forward collision warning-plus, which warns a driver of an impending collision and helps apply the brakes. ParkSense parallel/perpendicular park and hill-start assist are other features helpful to Ram 1500 drivers. The truck has ultrasonic sensors around it, which help with technical maneuvers and better parallel parking.
