Alhambra, California, is a smaller Los Angeles suburb that is known for its beautiful and historical architecture. The city is separated into different districts, each with their own history. See some of Alhambra's most unique architecture in each of these districts. more Emery Park District Emery Park District is in the northwest quadrant of the city. This northwest neighborhood combines the communities that were once known as La Marguerita, Souders, La Senda Tracts, and the Wuest. The neighborhood includes a group of architectural homes that date back to 1924. The area was originally a farming community until real estate investors decided to capitalize on the addition of railroad transportation known as the Electric Red Line. A few of the housing styles you can find in the Emery Park District include Spanish Colonials, English storybook cottages, and revived English Tudors. Emery Park also includes 25 homes that were built specifically for disabled soldiers of World War I. Bean Tract District The Bean Tract District is in the northeast quadrant of the city and is one of the priciest Alhambra neighborhoods. Main Street runs through the northwest and northeast quadrants of Alhambra and is a popular retail and commerce area. The street was referred to as Boabdil Street until 1902, when it was changed because local residents had a hard time pronouncing it. The Bean District was originally a part of the San Marino area. In an attempt to establish its own city, they developed their own municipality with unique housing and building restrictions. When you're starving, nothing beats a buffet for giving you the most food for your money. It's more expensive compared to a normal meal, but on days when you can pack it in, it's great to have all the options a buffet has to offer. Alhambra is part of the Los Angeles metro, so you won't have any trouble finding great restaurants where you can eat all you like. more Gold Hibachi Buffet Gold Hibachi Buffet offers something a little unusual out of the Alhambra Hotel on West Commonwealth Avenue. You can order their food online for delivery or takeout, or you can have a seat in their restaurant and get a little of everything from their lunch and dinner buffet. Big Catch Seafood Restaurant Big Catch Seafood is an L.A. area chain with three locations, and one is a half a block away from where Main Street and Garfield Avenue meet. Big Catch Seafood offers a mix of Eastern and Western options, but either way they're all about seafood. Do you always seem to end up buying tires more often than you should? Are you always worried about snow and rain because your treads keep wearing thin and leaving you without any grip? Your tires should last between five to 10 years depending on how you drive, where you live, and whether you park inside or outside, but the treads can wear down faster if you don't avoid bad habits or ignore problems for too long. more Poor Inflation Over-inflated tires bulge out at the center, putting more pressure on that part of the tread and causing it to wear down quickly. The same thing is true about under-inflated tires and the sides of the tread. Every tire constantly leaks a little air every day as the inside tries to equalize with the air pressure outside, and that's why you need to refill your tires every few months to keep it at the right psi. Keeping the air pressure up will keep your tires from wearing out too quickly. Poor Wheel Alignment It's surprising just how precise you need to align your tires to make sure they're as efficient as possible. When a tire is slightly misaligned it will try to move in the wrong direction, and the fact that it can't makes the tire scrape along just a little as the vehicle above it forces the tire to move in the right direction. Unfortunately, a perfect alignment doesn't stay perfect forever, either. Every bump in the road, every pothole, gravel road, and bridge bumps your tires and pushes them against the suspension that holds them in place. Since not every tire goes through the same experience and only two of them can steer, your tires will eventually come out of alignment and start wearing down faster. It's not by much if you realign your tires regularly, but if you don't then the wearing will get worse the longer you wait. Bad Suspension Sometimes the problem can be with the tires' connection to the car and not the tires themselves. If part of the suspension is broken or worn, it can cause a wheel to bounce too much and wear the treads down faster or keep one of the front wheels from turning far enough and end up scraping along the ground like it was out of alignment. This is also the most serious potential problem because a worn suspension strut could snap and leave you one wheel short of a functioning car. Other factors can also contribute to worn-down tires, like braking and accelerating too aggressively or driving too fast on the highway: hot tires leave more of their treads behind. You might also be buying tires with softer treads than normal, and softer tires wear down faster than tires made of harder materials. The miles you drive are also a part of the equation, so if you have a high-mileage job your tires won't last nearly as long. Looking for a place to go fishing this weekend? Check out one of these fantastic destinations near Alhambra, California. more Legg Lake Park Legg Lake Park is in the nearby town of  South El Monte. It's located inside the Whittier Narrows Recreation Area, which is a huge park with three lakes, a shooting range, a disc golf course, a horse center, and an urban farm. However, Legg Lake Park is the only lake where you can go fishing inside the recreation area. There's no fee to enter the park unless you need to park your car inside the park. Parking costs $6 for the entire day. You can fish off the side of the lake or bring a boat and head out on to the lake to fish that way instead. The only boats available to rent when you arrive are paddle boats, which cost about $25 for the afternoon. Spane Park Spane Park is in Paramount, California, roughly 20 minutes from Alhambra. It's a fantastic place to bring the whole family and spend the day fishing, walking, and relaxing on the grass. The pond where you can go fishing is fenced in, and you have to pay a small fee to fish here. There's also a fishing club that uses the area on Friday afternoons. If you want to get involved, speak to the team at the recreation center when you visit. In addition to a pond, the park has a basketball court, a playground, picnic benches that are free to use, and restrooms. Bring all of your fishing equipment and plenty of snacks to keep you going for the whole afternoon. Huckleberry Pond If you're trying to teach your kids how to fish, head to Huckleberry Pond in Anaheim. There are several small ponds where kids can catch trout. You can choose to purchase the fish and take it home with you to cook, or you can throw it back in. Another nice thing about Huckleberry Pond is that you don't need to own your own fishing rod to come and fish. There's plenty of equipment to use, including small rods for kids and bait for fishing. Simply show up and watch your kids enjoy a day of fishing on Huckleberry Pond. Diamond Valley Lake If you really want to get out and catch some big fish, make a day trip south of Los Angeles to Diamond Valley Lake. The trip takes about an hour both ways, but the fishing experience makes it totally worthwhile. In order to fish here, you must have a valid California Fishing License and you must use bait that has been approved by the State Department of Fish and Game. You can bring a boat and launch it into the lake, or you can rent a boat when you get to the lake and take it out on the water.
